Lead Poisoning!

What is it?
  • Lead poisoning, which is sometimes referred to as plumism (the latin word) is a very toxic condition caused by inhaling or ingesting lead.  Lead poisoning is sometimes easy to attain because it is found in so many places; soil, air, homes, water, cooking items, and pipes.  Lead tricks our bodies and masks itself as calcium, zinc and other essentials for our health.  But, what we think is calcium can actually be a harmful, even deadly poison.  Lead poisoning interferes with the blood system.  It occurs when the blood lead levels are equal to or greater than 10 micrograms/deciliter.

Symptoms of Lead Poisoning:
  • Low level of exposure: headaches, fatigue, weakness, impaired development or learning disabilities
  • Large level of exposure: vomiting, abdominal pain, decreased appetite, drowsiness and constipation
  • Extreme level of exposure: seizures, coma, central nervous system break down, impaired muscular coordination, and sometimes death
Examples of where practical poisoning can occur
